2019 SoTL Network Colloquium

The Academic Practice Team held the inaugural Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Network (SoTL) Colloquium on Pedagogy in Higher Education on Tuesday 14 May 2019

Teaching and the support of student learning in Higher Education presents considerable challenges, and attempts to improve quality should be driven by careful and critical consideration of evidence.  The current emphasis on evidence-informed practice in HE underlines the role of teaching as an intellectual and scholarly endeavour, as well as a practical one. The idea that teaching can – and should - be an intellectual vocation underpins the notion of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

The in-house SoTL Colloquium is an opportunity for University of York staff to present their research into HE pedagogy to colleagues.  It aims to encourage constructive debate around evidence-informed practice, and to provide a rich exchange of ideas on approaches to teaching and learning.

Having already developed a successful strand of enquiry through the SoTL Seminar reading group and the SoTL Journal, the Colloquium seeks to support staff further in developing and disseminating their own SoTL enquiries to inform practice.
