The Digital Recording of Lectures Working Group (DRoL) has been set up by the University of York to explore the pedagogic value of new media for recording and publishing lectures and virtual worlds such as Second Life.
New digital media communications technologies, most recently associated with Web 2.0, are shaping the lives of young people entering higher education and are likely to influence the demands made by students familiar with interactive and dispersed learning environments.
Many academic institutions are now beginning to utilise the potential of this technology for advantageous positioning in a global market for students, scholars, research contracts and business consultancy.
