The Promise and Perils of Researching Sensitive Issues

20 November 2018, University of York

This symposium, generously funded by the British Sociological Association, saw colleages from across the UK come together to offer the complex notion of sensitivity its rightful place in mainstream academic discussion. It collected and engaged with a diverse range of voices from across disciplines who critically reflected on both the challenges and rewards of doing sensitive research.

Playing Dead

17 May 2018, University of York

Playing Dead brought together academics from across the UK to discuss and analyse the intersections that exist between death, play and culture. Play, in the context of this symposium, is used broadly to speak of leisure and recreational activities more generally and, as such, not only encapsulates the playing of (non-)digital games, but also the consumption of cinema, literature, theatre, etc.
