Speaker(s): Professor David Beer and Dr Jennifer Chubb, Department of Sociology, University of York

The Department of Sociology is excited to announce the upcoming Postgraduate Research annual conference, ‘Beyond the Screen: Exploring the Digital Society’. Where we will be considering the social implications of fast developing digital technologies.

We are living through an extraordinary period of technological development. From social connectivity to the rapid growth of artificial intelligence, society is undergoing a digital transition experience. As researchers, we are driven by the need to explore and make sense of social changes that emerge from it.

This PGR annual conference will feature keynote addresses from Professor David Beer, discussing the work of his recent book, 'The Tensions of Algorithmic Thinking'. Dr Jennifer Chubb will also be discussing her work in artificial intelligence, covering recent publications such as 'Expert views about missing AI narratives: is there an AI story crisis?'

Join us in-person or online for a thought-provoking day, where you’ll have the chance to network and discuss a range of topics examining a digitalised society.
