Overview

Overview and CFP

Please be aware the venue has now changed from Wentworth College to the Innovation Centre on York campus.

This conference aims to bring together early career researchers from across the social sciences whose work examines the extent to which access and opportunity in various cultural, social, political, national and international spheres is limited by issues of inequality and privilege. As the UK and Europe edge out of economic stagnancy, combined with the drastic retrenchment of the state and popular unpopularity of politics and business, the question of a 'recovery for whom?' pervades our political discourse. As such we would like to propose following themes:

  • Access and opportunity to the state - health, justice and political systems
  • Access and opportunity in culture and the arts - regulation/management of culture and cultural spaces
  • Access and opportunity in research practise - methodological concerns and questions

However potential abstracts are not limited to above mentioned. Our conference aims to gather early career researchers from variety of disciplines to enhance our knowledge by looking at ‘access and opportunity’ from different angles, as such we will be offering a number of competitive bursaries for students, who submit an abstract, to assist with travel and accommodation costs.

Abstract submissions have now closed
