Finding aids

Researchers and University depositors can use these pages to browse listings of those archives generated by the University of York or accumulated by its departments. The University Archive is in the process of being arranged and catalogued. Finding aids will therefore be added as work progresses.

  • Details of the Archive's material in relation to southern Africa can be found by searching the Archives Hub (limiting searches to the repository, i.e. Borthwick Institute)
  • Information on the Library's holdings and Rare Books is provided separately
  • Details of the Borthwick Institute for Archives' wider holdings can be found on its catalogue.

The University Archive is part of the Borthwick Institute for Archives. Its records are open subject to the overriding provisions of the Data Protection and Freedom of Information Acts. Access to committee papers, personal papers and subject files is commonly restricted, owing to the recent nature of the material and prevalence of third party personal information. Researchers wishing to consult unpublished material in the archives should contact the University Archivist in the first instance.
