Reproductive Health Policy in Africa: Regionalism and Gendered Institutions
I am researching the role regional organisations on reproductive health policy in Africa, analysing why reproductive health policy delivery remains inadequate and inconsistent at country level despite having regional policy guidelines at the African Union level. I am using Feminist Institutionalism approach to study how deeply institutional gender biases entrenched in the AU structure, systems and culture undermine the development and delivery of sexual and reproductive health response on the continent. I study Zambia as a case country AU member state to explore how the AU’s reproductive health policy is operationalised at country level and how gendered institutions affect delivery.
