This year marks 20 years since Section 28, the law that banned the “promotion of homosexuality” in the UK, was repealed. This was a victory then and continues to be a reminder of what can be achieved when we work in solidarity to combat injustice. Much progress has been made since, but we must go further. With parts of the LGBTQ+ community still under attack, let us not drop our guard and ensure progress is made.
In the meantime, why not get acquainted with the work of the South African artist and visual activist, Zanele Muholi, whose work celebrates South Africa’s Black lesbian, gay, trans, queer and intersex communities. Here is a peek of Muholi's work which was on display at the Tate Modern.
