David Watkin-Holmes

Vocal teacher (tenor), David Watkin-Holmes

David is a professional tenor vocalist and sang with the National Youth Choir of Great Britain before studying music performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and the Birmingham Conservatoire, where he was also awarded the St Clare Barfield Rose Bowl for Operatic Distinction.  He was a scholar in the Samling’s residential masterclasses with Thomas Allen, and a finalist in the Geraint Evans Memorial Competition and winner of the Mario Lanza Opera Competition.

He studied traditional Italian School bel canto as well as modern Estill Voice Training methods with two of the country’s foremost exponents, Neil Howlett and Paul Farrington, and as a teacher he specialises in classical, crossover and musical theatre styles.  As a performer he has sung for Clonter Opera, Co-Opera (Ireland), English National Opera Studio, European Chamber Opera, Mid Wales Opera, Opera Minora (Netherlands), Perth Festival Opera, Stowe Opera and Wexford Festival Opera.

David is also an associate tutor at the Universities of York St John and Hull, and formerly a senior lecturer at Leeds College of Music and head of singing at the Birmingham School of Acting.
