Profile

Biography

Having been lecturing in HRM since 2007, with a specific specialism in performance management, reward and the macro and micro environments in which HRM is conducted, I fully appreciate the need to constantly refresh and influence perspectives on HR's contribution to organisation life. My ethos is to continually develop approaches to teaching and to the pastoral care of students in order to nurture within them an appreciation of the benefits which HR can make in the lives of people across organisations, whether employees are paid or are volunteers. I am a chartered fellow of the CIPD and have had success in securing a number of CIPD commendations for HRM pathways that I have led and been involved with during my academic career. My research interests are in Resourcing and Talent Management with a particular focus upon mentoring and HR support within the third sector.

My career has spanned national and international boundaries, all of which were focused within a HR context. This includes a supervisory role in Aer Lingus' HR Department; as a Leadership and Management Specialist at The Institute of Public Administration (IPA) in Dublin, during which time I was involved in actively developing the capacity of civil servants in Romania and Bulgaria as part of each country's application for EU accession, as well as implementing management development within the European Commission. I also have considerable experience in supporting learning strategies at government and agency level in other jurisdictions as well as significant experience in leading major change interventions.

Prior to joining the School for Business and Society I have held other prominent academic roles including as a member of Academic Council; as a member of a School Senior Management Board and have held a number of Programme Director posts at PG and UG level. I see my University responsibilities as marrying education and teaching provision to support University strategy, within a HR context.
