Profile

Biography

I joined the School for Business and Society in September 2015 from Liverpool John Moores University where I served as a Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance for almost 2 years. Prior to this, I held a full-time lectureship post at Liverpool Hope University and part-time academic positions at various universities in the UK and Ghana including Loughborough University, Nottingham Trent University, University of Ghana, and Ashesi University College.

I hold a PhD in Finance and an MSc. degree in Banking and Finance (with Distinction) from Loughborough University. In addition, I hold a BSc. Administration (Accounting option) degree (with First Class) from the University of Ghana, and have also completed the professional accountancy programme of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (Ghana). I am also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

I have continuing research interest in Accounting and Corporate Finance particularly in the areas of capital structure, corporate governance, corporate diversification, and mergers and acquisitions (M&As). I have published a book which explores the relationship between corporate financial leverage and M&As, and have also published articles in reputable peer-reviewed academic journals such as the Accounting Forum. Furthermore, I have presented my research at various academic conferences, and my manuscript won the “Overall Best Manuscript Award” at the 18th International Academy of Management and Business (IAMB) Conference held in Rome, Italy in September, 2014. I am an ad-hoc reviewer for the Journal of International Business Studies, and the African Review of Economics and Finance journal as well as serve as an Editorial Board member for the World Economy Study journal.

In 2008, I won the prestigious award of the “Overall Best Student in Advanced Financial Reporting” during the May 2007 professional examinations organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants (Ghana). I have also won a number of competitive scholarships including the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship and the Loughborough University Research Scholarship.

For leisure, I play table tennis. I also enjoy reading about issues in politics, economics, and religion.
