The history of the King's Manor reflects the history of the city of York. Once a proud monastic Abbotts' lodgings, the King's Manor housed the officers of the crown and became the centre of monarchical power and control in the North under the Tudors and Stuarts. In the eighteenth century high society whiled away the winter months at the King's Manor gambling and dancing, whilst in the nineteenth century the buildings housed a school. This day school traces the history of the building and the people who lived and worked there.
