Folk songs can be any songs we know and sing together. Hence, the influence of traditional music on our culture cannot be overestimated as songs are the lifeblood of communities and offer a unique insight into our shared values. This course will not only feature British artists like Pentangle, Sandy Denny, Dick Gaughan, Davy Graham, Martin Carthy and the Watersons: we will also take a historical view of the emergence of the various traditions and some of the iconic folk songs that have been loved and passed down from generation to generation.
