A History of Islamic Carpets

The history of carpet weaving in the Islamic world will be the focus of this two week course. Through the analysis of the most iconic carpets, you will learn about materials, patterns and stylistic trends but also about patrons and places of manufacture. The course will be completed by an excursus on the export of carpets from the Islamic world to Europe, mainly Italy, and an overview on the representation of carpets in the paintings of the most celebrated Renaissance artists.
