This afternoon course will explore the wealth of medieval stained and painted glass in York by studying the windows of York parish churches and the Minster in situ. Apart from the first and last seminars, all other meetings will take place in a church where windows will be ‘read’ and analysed. The study of the windows will be complemented by reading relevant medieval documents and modern scholarly articles, to enhance the understanding of the iconography and techniques displayed in the windows.
