The King's Manor building, York

In 1903 the city of Leeds erected a statue of the ‘Black Prince’ in the city square, but who was he and why was he considered to be the upholder of the rights of the people and an emblem of chivalry? This day school will explore the career of the historical Black Prince, Edward of Woodstock, the eldest son of Edward III, how the legend of the Black Prince developed, and why he was considered to be a role model by the Victorians.
