Speaker(s): Gillian Waters BA MA PGDip PGCE
The name Macbeth is well-known from Shakespeare’s play of that name, and his infamous assassination of Duncan I of Scotland, but the reality is very different. This day school will examine the career of the historical Macbeth, Mormaer of Moray, his involvement in the death of Duncan I, and Macbeth’s accession to the Scottish throne. We will also explore why Macbeth, who ruled Scotland for 17 years before he was eventually defeated in battle, became the subject of Shakespeare’s play.
