Thursday 25 January 2024, 2.00PM to 4.00pm
Speaker(s): Joe Saunders MA MPhil
The mid-seventeenth century was one of the most momentous eras in English history with riot, rebellion and civil war leading to what some have called the English Revolution. This course explores events which saw a higher proportion of the English population die than in the First World War, the monarchy toppled, and early discussions of parliamentary sovereignty and religious freedom. It will consider political and military affairs and discuss the social, cultural and economic impacts for ordinary people.
