Stoicism

Saturday 8 October 2022, 10.00AM to 1:00pm

Speaker(s): Angelos Sofocleous BA MA

This course is an introduction to the philosophy of Stoicism. Students will be introduced to the theories of key Stoic thinkers - Zeno of Citium, Seneca, Epictetus, and Marcus Aurelius - as well as to the ideas of some contemporary Stoic philosophers. We will examine how Stoicism can help us live mindful, virtuous, and authentic lives - guided by the concept of ‘memento mori’ - and how it can lead us closer to understanding logos (reason) and sophia (wisdom).
