This course will examine the history of art museums and galleries in the British Isles. It will not only explore the foundation and (sometimes controversial) collections of some of the most well-known sites such as The British Museum, Victoria & Albert Museum and National Galleries of London and Scotland, but will also consider smaller ‘hidden gems’ throughout the United Kingdom, and local collections in Yorkshire.
