Saturday 8 October 2022, 10.00AM to 4:00pm
Speaker(s): Gillian Waters BA MA PGDip PGCE
William Marshal, a younger son of a minor nobleman, made his career through tournaments and jousts, allegedly defeating over five hundred knights, and earned a chivalrous reputation. He served Eleanor of Aquitaine, Henry II, Richard I, King John and Henry III, and was rewarded with a rich wife, the Earldom of Pembroke and the hereditary office of Marshal. This day course examines the career of William Marshal and considers whether he really was ‘the greatest knight that ever lived’.
