Monday 26 September 2022, 7.00PM to 9:00pm
Speaker(s): James Parker BA MA PhD
This module will provide a general introduction to the history of modern Britain, from around 1700 to the present day. It will trace the development of Britain through urbanisation, industrialisation, empire, world war and reform. The module will proceed on a broad chronological basis, but this will not be a simple narrative of political events; we will challenge students to understand Britain’s history through economic, social, cultural, and geopolitical lenses. In doing so, the module will aim to unsettle assumptions about how modern Britain as a nation-state came into being.
