Exploring the Landscape of York

York is pretty flat, except where it isn’t. In this half-day class, we will investigate the ups and downs of the old county town, exploring the geology and geography that have underpinned its development. We will explore what York’s landscape would look like with the streets and houses stripped away, and ask if the Romans really did build a hill on which to burn an emperor, and whether people will soon be paddling again in Lake Humber.

This is a partner class to ‘Exploring the Landscapes of Yorkshire’. No geological or geographical qualifications are required, just an interest in the landscape.
