Saturday 26 February 2022, 10.00AM to 1.00pm
Speaker(s): Martin Fletcher PhD FHEA
The 1960s and 1970s saw the emergence of a generation of Canadian singer-songwriters whose work has become part of the fabric of popular music culture. What yokes together the unique talents of Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, and the Band’s Robbie Robertson, is the poetry of their lyrics and the wit and wisdom of the songs. Reading the songs as verse, as well as hearing the music, the course will try to establish connections between the distinctive voices and their shared Canadian heritage.
This course will be delivered via Zoom. Students joining the course will need access to a computer, laptop or tablet with a microphone (essential) and a webcam (desirable) as well as a reliable broadband connection.
