This course addresses the life and art of the British artist Sir Stanley Spencer (1891–1959). We will explore his religious and artistic influences, the context in which he painted his masterpieces, and the idiosyncratic ideas and concepts that underpinned his artwork. We will also consider the dramatic story of his life and his loves, which are forever immortalised in his paintings.
This course will be delivered via Zoom. Students joining the course will need access to a computer, laptop or tablet with a microphone (essential) and a webcam (desirable) as well as a reliable broadband connection.
