Reimagining Antiquity in the English Country House

Saturday 28 May 2022, 10.00AM to 1:00PM

Speaker(s): Tracey Davison BA MA

In the eighteenth century many of the great country houses in England were being built or remodelled into the classical style. This course will explore the precedents for this style, looking back to the Italian Renaissance, the Roman Empire, and Ancient Greece. We will consider not only the architecture of these buildings, but also the personalities of their patrons and architects. Together we will investigate the stories behind the art and architecture of some of the nation’s most treasured country houses.
