Does Richard I Deserve the Name Lionheart?

Saturday 12 February 2022, 10.00AM to 1.00pm

Speaker(s): Gillian Waters MA PGDip PGCE

Richard I is remembered as a great military leader and crusader but he only spent seven months in England during his whole ten year reign, and the monies raised to pay his ransom nearly bankrupted England. This course examines Richard I’s reign and his legacy. Does Richard I deserve his reputation as a generous warrior king with a lion’s heart? Or is Richard I ‘a bad son, a bad husband, and a bad king’?
