Aspects of Africa: Histories, Colonialism and the Present

Beginning with a look at the rich cultural history of precolonial Sub-Saharan Africa we move on to the colonial impact and its legacy, followed by the post-colonial era to the present. Contemporary topics such as migration, its causes and risks, religion and faith groups, the reach of the state, origins of conflict, gainers and losers in expanding cities, and interconnections between all of these. Finally, an appreciation of contemporary cultural life in music, art, literature and sport across the continent.
