An Introduction to Dutch Art

This course introduces students to the art of the Netherlands, from Hieronymus Bosch to Piet Mondrian. A particular focus is the Dutch Golden Age, encompassing Rembrandt, Vermeer, Saenredam, Hals, still life and landscape painting. The course also traces the development of modern art, from Van Gogh to De Stijl. Students will be introduced to the history of the region, including the Dutch Revolt, the East India Company and the development of Amsterdam.
