England and France: A History of Alliance and Enmity

Thursday 22 April 2021, 2.00PM to 4.00pm

Speaker(s): Cristina Figueredo BA MA PhD

Anglo-Saxon kings took Frankish and Norman princesses as wives. Once over half of modern France was the dominion of the king of England. The history of the relationship between the two countries, however, is one of rivalry at best and of open war at worst. This course will study the shared history of England and France throughout the Middle Ages. It will explore the causes and consequences of the Norman Conquest and the Hundred Years’ War, among other relevant events.
