Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Battle of Culloden

In 1745 Charles Edward Stuart, also known as Bonnie Prince Charlie, invaded England and travelled as far as Derby before turning back to Scotland where his armies were decisively beaten at the Battle of Culloden on 16 April 1746. This course examines the reasons why the "Young Pretender" claimed the throne of England, his 1745-46 campaign, and the consequences of his defeat at Culloden in 1746.
