Anglo-Saxon Kingdoms: Æthelflæd, Lady of the Mercians

Æthelflæd, Alfred the Great’s daughter, ruled as Lady of the Mercians after her husband died. She fortified cities, led the Mercian army in battle, and defeated the invading Danes. By analysing chronicles and other contemporary sources, this course will explore the life and remarkable achievements of this warrior queen of the Mercians.
