From his first appearance in a 9th-century chronicle by Nennius, King Arthur’s life and image have been resurrected time and again to suit the political needs of warrior kings of England. This module examines the ways in which the Arthurian legend has been reworked throughout Medieval England; it will study the exploitation of Arthur’s figure by the Plantagenets - from Henry II to Henry VIII - by analysing medieval and Tudor chronicles written under the sponsorship of the kings of England.
