Thursday 21 January 2021, 7.00PM to 9.00 PM

Speaker(s): Cristina Figueredo

In Medieval England all whales washed up on the shore belonged - by law - to the monarch. Many laws like this one sound very strange; some of them are still in the Statutes. This course will explore some of the strangest laws of medieval England from articles of Magna Carta to the reasons behind the establishment of habeas corpus. It will study the laws connected to food, dress, relationships, etc. In addition, it will deal with crimes and punishment.
