The Geology of the Yorkshire Dales

The Yorkshire Dales are one of the most iconic landscapes in Britain. But what are they made of, how did they get there, and why do they vary? In this half-day class we will investigate the geology and landscape of the Dales, from the half-a-billion year-old distorted seabeds of Ingleton to the modern valleys scoured by glacial meltwaters. We will also explore the ancient life preserved in the rocks, from the reef limestones of Craven to the coal swamps of Wensleydale. 

No previous experience of geology is required.
