Orientalist Artists and the Islamic World

Saturday 13 March 2021, 10.00AM to 1:15 PM

Speaker(s): Roberta Marin

Orientalist painting will be the starting point for our investigation into the development of Islamic art and in the key role played by the cultural and commercial activities between Europe and the Muslim World. By observing the works of Orientalist artists, we will have an insight in Islamic architecture, like, for instance, the Kutubiyya Mosque in Marrakech, and we will analyse the use of tiles in architectural decoration, carpets and textiles production.
