Speaker(s): Cristina Figueredo
Venerable Bede’s Ecclesiastical History of the English People tells the story of the Christian Church in Britain, providing the reader with a portrait of England from paganism to Christianity. Bede’s partiality in favour of Roman traditions – as opposed to Ionan ones – becomes evident, as does his aim to show the Anglo-Saxons as a unity, instead of as competing kingdoms. This course will study Bede’s credentials as the first English historian, illustrated by Bede’s own words.
This course will be delivered via Zoom. Students joining our online courses would need access to a computer, laptop or tablet with a microphone (essential) and a webcam (desirable) as well as a reliable broadband connection.
