Discover the timelessness of gardening. Archaeology, ancient writings and a wealth of blossoming Roman art reveal the innovation and luxury of increasingly refined ancient landscapes. Practical, nutritional and medicinal were entwined with art and architecture, and with fantastical myth and legendary history. Ancient lore, perfect tools and wonderful wildlife all feature amidst plants from around the Roman Empire.
Join Gillian Hovell, ‘The Muddy Archaeologist’, in this richly-illustrated celebration of ancient gardens that inspired our stately homes and modern horticulture.
