Alcuin of York was the heir of a teaching tradition that had started at Jarrow, where Bede was master. The syllabus followed at Monkwearmouth /Jarrow survived at York. Alcuin became Master of the Cathedral School of York and helped design the Church of Holy Wisdom. Later, he would write poems about the city and its Minster. This half-day course will explore Alcuin’s life and achievements while he was at York, before being invited to Charlemagne’s court.
This course will be delivered via Zoom. Students joining our online courses would need access to a computer, laptop or tablet with a microphone (essential) and a webcam (desirable) as well as a reliable broadband connection.
