Twentieth-Century Scottish Poetry

Tuesday 14 April 2020, 7.00PM to 9.00pm

From early twentieth-century figures like Edwin Muir and Hugh McDiarmuid, through WS Graham and Edwin Morgan, and down to contemporary poets such as Liz Lochead, John Burnside, Kathleen Jamie, and Don Paterson, Scottish writers have composed some of the most vibrant poetry of the twentieth century. This course will explore the key works of Scottish poetry, considering their complex historical and cultural contexts, their engagement with multiple literary traditions from around the world, and their ongoing negotiations with the English language.
