Saturday 29 February 2020, 10.00AM to 4.30pm
This course will consider the painting and sculpture of Michelangelo across his long lifetime, placing these works into their broader art-historical, social, political and historical contexts. We will look at a range of works in detail, considering their formal qualities, as well as issues of patronage, original location, medium, technique and purpose, so as to build a detailed understanding on the development of Michelangelo's European-wide reputation as a new kind of craftsman: the artist as 'divine'. It is anticipated that this course will be held at the King’s Manor.
