Artistic approaches towards natural views have changed significantly over the course of centuries. From Pompeian wall paintings functioning as ‘windows’ opening up to distant views, through Albrecht Dürer’s open air studies and Romantic visions of the natural sublime, ending with Post-Impressionists, this course will offer an insight into changing and evolving tendencies regarding landscape art. To better convey the subject, socio-historical contexts as well as the notion of ‘landscape’ will be discussed.
