Thursday 3 October 2019, 7.00PM to 9.00pm
Through this course you will encounter a range of nineteenth and twentieth century French and British Impressionist paintings. You will learn about earlier art that inspired the French Impressionists and their group exhibitions. Together, we will explore what gives Impressionism its distinct character, particularly its artists’ painting techniques and the sense of ‘painting quickly’ that their canvases give. We will also think about how modern life is represented in the paintings, the growth of the movement and its influence on later art.
