The History of Normandy: From the Vikings to D-Day

Wednesday 15 April 2020, 7.00PM to 9.00pm

The territory which the ‘North Men of the Seine’ obtained from the French king in 911 became first the duchy of Normandy and later a region of modern France. Its rich history spans from the first Viking settlers to the dukes-kings of England, from the Hundred Years’ War to Normandy's exploration of the New World, and the dramatic Second World War landings on D-Day. This course will explore the history of the region from the tenth to the twentieth centuries.
