Have you ever wondered why York has so many churches and chapels, often in close proximity to one another? This course will take a fresh approach to the study of York's religious buildings by focusing not on their architecture, but upon the people who built and used them. Using archival records, we will gain a detailed insight into the social and cultural factors which influenced church and chapel life for those who flocked to these newly-built places of worship.
