'Purloined by Travelling Antiquaries' and other Peculiar Tales of Medieval Pavements

Saturday 29 February 2020, 1.30PM to 4.30pm

There is a temptation in medieval buildings to look up at amazing vaulted ceilings, elaborate gothic architecture or colourful stained glass. Yet in doing so you might find yourself walking over floors that are hundreds of years old without noticing. If we overlook floor tiles now, does this mean that medieval people did too? Together we will explore local sites such as Byland Abbey and Fountains Abbey to find out what their pavements can tell us about the medieval past.
