The parish church was central to the lives of medieval people, being built, extended and rebuilt throughout the period. It remains an enduring feature of the English town or village, and a popular place to visit for both walkers and tourists. Together we will look at the architectural style of these buildings, as well as their decoration and changing functions; these are the clues you will need in order to date a medieval church and understand how it was used.
