Who was King Harold?

Saturday 26 October 2019, 10.00AM to 4.30pm

Harold Godwinson, King of England, famously died fighting the Normans at the Battle of Hastings in 1066… but who was he? Most of what we know about him has been written by Normans, who claimed he had become William the Conqueror’s vassal. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, on the other hand, depicts him as a proud and powerful earl. This course will assess all the available evidence to trace the life and deeds of the last Anglo-Saxon King of England. It is anticipated that this course will be held at the King’s Manor.
