Illuminated Manuscripts

Tuesday 1 October 2019, 1.00PM to 3.00pm

Lavishly decorated and skilfully illuminated manuscripts are among the most remarkable treasures of medieval Europe. Monastic scriptoria and secular workshops produced a vast number of these invaluable books, many of which have survived to amaze the modern viewer. This course aims to study the design, production, and execution of paradigmatic medieval manuscripts, culminating in a seminar at the Minster Library, where we will be able to observe and study a selection of books illuminated between the tenth and the fifteenth centuries.
