'Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive!' The Berlin Wall Falls

Saturday 7 December 2019, 1.30PM to 4.30pm

30 years ago the television images of the fall of the Berlin Wall astonished the world and raised expectations of a more stable and peaceful future after decades of political confrontation and the spectre of nuclear war. What triggered the drama of November 1989? How significant was the fall of the Berlin Wall in causing the end of the Cold War? To what extent did 1989 mark a turning point in history? And in what ways have expectations of a stable, prosperous and peaceful future been disappointed?
